Jordan Almonds Frenzy

Now that the Holiday season is almost over, I’d like to focus your attention on something that may seem trivial to you now, but when you need it you’ll thank us for bringing it up. That is – Jordan Almonds. What are Jordan almonds you may ask? According to Wikipedia, Jordan almonds, also known as sugared almonds, are a type of confectionery consisting of almonds covered solely with a hard sugar coating in various pastel colors.
Fancy, sugarcoated candies are rich in flavor and in cultural meaning, particularly at Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern weddings. Whether decorative items, party favors, or simply nutty nibbles, here’s a taste of these confections’ yummy symbolism.
GENERAL SIGNIFICANCE Fresh almonds have a bittersweet taste, which represents life. The sugarcoating is added with the hope that the newlyweds’ life will be more sweet than bitter.
ITALIAN WEDDINGS Five almonds signify five wishes for the bride and groom: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity. These almonds decorate each place setting as favors, tucked into pretty boxes or tulle bags, mesh bags or flowered dishes, that are often personalized with the couple’s names and wedding date.
GREEK WEDDINGS Sugarcoated almonds in traditional Greek weddings are called ‘koufetta’. They are placed in little bags in odd numbers and are served on a silver tray. Odd numbers are indivisible, symbolizing how the newlyweds will share everything and remain undivided. Tradition holds that if an unmarried woman puts the almonds under her pillow, she’ll dream of her future husband.
MIDDLE EASTERN WEDDINGS Candy-covered almonds, considered lucky symbol for love, is always on hand.
A SWEET IDEA Jordan Almonds make great wedding favors — wrap a cluster in tulle tied with ribbon, pack a few in boxes (made of sugar, straw, paper, metal, mesh or plastic), stuff some in decorative bags, or pour a handful into champagne glasses or glass bowls. Attach a little card with a note explaining the almonds’ meaning (so guests know they’re not just an intermezzo between the salad and the filet mignon).
Color Coding Your Event
Being that Jordan almonds were always a popular item, be it for weddings or just any event like Bridal Showers (pink and white Jordan almonds), Baby Showers (blue or pink [or both!]), Bar Mitzvahs (dark blue, brown or white), Bat Mitzvahs (pink, white or a mix of red pink and white), Parlor Meeting (any color). For Valentine’s Day you could send that loved one a nice arrangement of pink, white and red Jordan almonds.
Not only are Jordan almonds appropiate for any event, they can be used year round! For fall events we have the ‘autumn mix‘ made up of browns, oranges and yellows! In the winter we have Chanukah colors (blue, white and silver) and Christmas colors too (red, green and gold)! For Spring and Summer celebrations there are perfect pastel mixes to keep the color theme going, for whichever light summer color you choose for your party pastel Jordan almonds always match the decor.
Popular colors of Jordan almonds include yellow, lavender, ivory cappuccino, brown cocoa, orange peach, black and white, red, green, baby blue, baby pink, copper cinnamon, honey light brown, dark green and more!
The newest innovative creation in the Jordan almond line is the sparkly silver and gold Jordan almonds. Each Jordan almonds shines in a distinctive shimmering silver and gold gloss. Don’t limit yourself to thinking that it’s too extravagant to display these almonds. On the contrary, just a few pieces of each in a crystal bowl at a wedding makes the difference! Try placing about 5 pieces in a white or gold silken mini-bag and you’ll see the reaction you’ll get when you hand them out at the bridal shower!
