Party Food Idea – Silver and Gold Cereal Snack Mix

Here’s where I stand on all the big issues of the day: party food? Love it, can’t get enough. Pass the hors d’ oeuvres and save me a slice of that layer cake, please! Party attendance? Ehhh, I’ll pass. I’m more into casual get-togethers with a few friends. So when I started brainstorming fun party food ideas, I wanted to make something that would work for a big gathering, but would also be appropriate and enjoyable for a cozy night in. Meet Silver and Gold Cereal Snack Mix, a basic party staple with a little added bling!

This gorgeous, sparkling Silver and Gold Cereal Snack Mix is perfect for serving at parties–and hey, didn’t I hear there’s a pretty big occasion called New Year’s Eve coming up soon? Don’t worry, if  you’re more of a homebody like me, it’s also good for munching at home during a casual movie or game night!

Party Food Idea - Silver and Gold Cereal Snack Mix

This easy party mix is made from Chex cereal, coated in white chocolate and tossed with a few fun mix-ins like marshmallows, peanuts, and yogurt-covered raisins. The sparkle factor comes from silver and gold sixlets, which are beautiful pearly chocolate candies. They’re so luminous they gleam, and they make this simple cereal snack seem waaaay fancier than it actually is! I also added a few edible sparkling sprinkles for a little more pizzazz. Feel free to substitute different mix-ins when making this–other nuts, pretzels, and dried fruits are all good options!  Here’s what you need to get started:

Place the melting chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the wafers, stirring after every 30 seconds, until they’re completely melted and smooth. Set aside for a moment.

In a large bowl, combine the Chex cereal, marshmallows, raisins, peanuts, and 1/2 cup  each of the gold and silver Sixlets. This is a lot of ingredients, and things are about to get a little messy, so use your biggest bowl! Toss all of the ingredients together briefly.

Pour the melted candy coating over the cereal mixture…

…and stir until everything is completely coated and well-mixed.

Scrape the mixture out onto a baking sheet covered in parchment or waxed paper. Spread it into an even layer with a spatula.

Working quickly, sprinkle the remaining gold and silver Sixlets on top of the cereal mix. It’s important to do this while the coating is still wet, so you can press down gently to adhere them to the cereal. Adding some Sixlets on top keeps them from being covered with the white coating, and gives your cereal mix a pop of metallic color. If you are using sparkling sprinkles or edible glitter, dust that all over the top.

Refrigerate the tray to set the coating, for about 20 minutes. Once it’s set, break it into small pieces to serve. This cereal snack mix can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. It makes a great edible gift or party food, and it’s delicious whether you eat it in a ball gown or your rattiest sweat pants! As always, there are printable directions and an easily pin-able image down below. Enjoy!
